Yes, Erick Schonfeld, “Something like this was bound to happen. If you’ve got an audience, no matter how small, advertisers will figure out a way to reach them.”

TwittAd allows Twitter users, like you and me, and advertisers (those other guys) the opportunity to meet for product placement & website promotion on a Twitter user profile. Translation:
TwittAd provides a service which allows advertisers to purchase a Twitter user background image for marketing and branding and allows Twitter Users to make money based upon the amount of followers they have.

Is it cool to exploit your friends and trusty followers for some cold hard cash?

According to TwittAd’s blog and hot off The CEO’s Desk, the company seems to think so. “We went from 30 signed up users to 220 as of 2:00 p.m. Central. We have had 9 new advertisers sign up and 3 purchases take place in the last 3 hours. Obviously, many Twitter users think that this is a good advertising model and one they would support.”

This is the sound of me scratching my head and staring ponderously out my window. Maybe it’s the day after the holiday and my little engine that could be happy can’t, or maybe I am just sick of hearing the word monetize in relation to your new favorite community. Are these micro-blogging platforms about building community and fostering authenticity or making the bottom dollar? The advertisers were bound to descend.

Conclusion:
TwittAd leaves me with more questions than applause.

Figures, I hate going to many movies theaters now just because of the ads. I understand the need to monetize but this seems a bit much. However, sometimes you need to monetize to keep a good thing going.

Adjix appears to be a little less "in your face" and obtrusive. I think the key to success for any of these monetizing efforts will be in their ability to elegantly streamline with these platforms. We don't need the entire webspace plastered with billboard ads like the Sunset Strip.

Tracking Clicks w/ Adjix
written by Joe Moreno, September 03, 2008
Just like Twittad, Adjix has been described as a way to monetize Twitter (review: http://adjix.com/h397 ).

Additionally, Adjix tracks detailed click data on each link (even when you use our ad-free links). We also use the ad-free link option to audit Google AdWords since we can see exactly who has clicked on our links.

People can even use their own domain name in the shortened Adjix URL or use our API to access Adjix from third party apps.

The entire premise reminds me of those super obvious and obnoxious product placements in film & tv.

It was bound to happen.... there are too many people looking to make a quick buck of the web without putting any actual work and effort into it. How do you track results.... are people really seeing these (very ugly looking) ads and saying oh wow I'm going to do a Google search on this.

I'm not surprised by the amount of people trying it out tho... like i said, people will do anything for a quick buck.
