I am always curious why someone decides to follow me on a particular platform be it Plurk or Twitter, Facebook or Stumble. Some of my online pals cross-pollinate to other networks but I find where we first meet, remains our veritable stomping ground. And just like real life, there are slumps when trying to build new friendships. Social media is about participation and relationship building. So how do you meet the right people online? I tend to be a bit shy about adding people as friends online without a specific context; it feels a bit like asking someone to dance that you’ve never met before. That is why I love love love it when one of the mover n’ shakers in the webosphere creates an online mixer of sorts, like Darren Rowse of Problogger’s Social Media Love-in. His call to action was simple, “In comments below - leave links to any of your social media profiles that you want to promote.” The launch post received over 600 comments by fellow bloggers and fans of social media. Hizah! What a wonderful way to build community and foster your elationships. (That is not a typo) By elationships, I mean creating connections that elate, ones that make people happy and excited. It’s about being something of value to your community. Problogger proffered the suggestion to his blogging community to connect and how we all have. Thanks to everyone who has added me as a friend in the last few days. I am looking forward to your blog posts and updates and building upon our elationships. Cheers!
