If you’re anything like me, someone who LOVES the internet and spends most of the time twittering about on various social platforms, you have loads of profiles, feeds, streams, blogs, logs, albums, galleries (…more here please)and you desire one place to keep track of them all with the ability to also keep track of your friends. Does such an animal exist? I find it’s sort of like asking your refrigerator to freeze popsicles and grill up a savory steak all at the same time. Needless to say, some intuitive aggregators have come close to a hybridization.

Dan Taylor of the Fabric of Folly weblog recently came out with an awesome review of social aggregators and life streaming services. In his review, he considers the amount of work a user had to do to set up their aggregation, the automatic pulling in of services and friend lists, the ability to keep track of your own activity, your friends’ activity or, a combination of the two and the technical and presentational aspects of the services.

The verdict is still out on which aggregator service will take the social lead but there was quite a bit of buzz at this year’s SXSW about SocialThing! The service allows users to see everything that’s going on with their friends in all the sites they use in a “Lifestream.” Still in private beta, you can request an invite by signing up for their mailing list.

The end game, as with any new site, is the best user experience. As the social web continues to morph and cast its influence into our daily lives, the call for innovative designs to aggregate our social universe is well-timed.
