While driving to work this morning, I was haunted by a gnawing desire to learn how to make a balloon sword. It happens whilst I am on the road; I am held captive by a relentless desire to further my education, to add to the stockpile of important life lessons. And with all this Internet, who has time for learning how-to’s in a classroom setting? Like anyone else, I turned to the web. Much to my excitement, I discovered 5min - Life Videopedia, poised to change the world one videocast at a time. At first glance 5min, the online video sharing community, looks like a little ankle-grabbing cousin when compared to video-sharing giant YouTube but don’t sleep on this social network. According to Mashable.com, 5min.com has been quietly and steadily growing in the niche educational sector and investors smell a profit. With $5 million venture capitalist dollars in their pocket, the once Israel-based company has moved to New York City to set up shop and define the standard for online instructional video providers. In a recent interview by Techconfidential.com, CEO and co-founder Ran Harnevo emphasized 5min’s intention to create a superior technology for the world community to share educational content. 5Min’s smart player allows users to slow down a video and watch it frame by frame to control the viewing experience; this is a powerful and distinctive feature from what most of 5min's rivals offer. And while 5min has not yet liberated the player from the site to allow users to embed videos where they wish, the site stands to create a major splash with the first communal Life Videopedia, “allowing users from all over the globe to contribute their knowledge by sharing visual guides in areas such as arts, business, fashion, sports, health, tech, food, and much more.” 5min's basic philosophy is simple: everybody is an expert in something and everybody has something to teach others. So next time you are looking perk up a party with a balloon trick or learn how to make a flame thrower, I highly recommend you check out 5min.com. Related sites: Videojug, YouDoMagic, NowPlayIt
