SPIN Magazine recently added their digital footprint to the web with an interactive version of the glossy pages called SPIN Digital. And there aint no half steppin’-- Los Angeles Times reports, “A digital product similar to the print version is posted on MySpace. Results are good.” The digital version of the magazine posted nearly three weeks ago, offers a free12-month subscription to registered users of MySpace Music. MySpace fans can add SPIN as a friend or as a favorite. SPIN’s friend space rolls over 18-thousand deep with the likes of Modest Mouse, Grizzly Bear and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Who they’d like to meet: “People who are just waking up while reading this. Who don’t need the list. Who like to dance. Who don’t differentiate between the weekends and weekdays.”
The magazine was founded in 1985 by publisher Bob Guccione, Jr. Touted as the industry competitor to Rolling Stone, the magazine built its legacy with an eclectic, anti-establishment style, devoting significant coverage to alternative music in nearly every genre with extensive coverage of rap and hip hop culture. SPIN Digital intends to capture tech-savvy readers online and to place their product in front of the eyes of the demographically desirable crowd of younger web surfers and music lovers who camp out on MySpace, the ever-popular social-networking site. The SPIN: Good for online music junkies, good for trees!
