A Tale of Two Discoveries

It's autumn here in the Pacific Northwest which means eye candy abounds in shades of bronze, gold, honey, eggplant and crimson. The changing of season, the mixture of sun splashed days and overcast skies, reminds me of the greater eco-system at play before my eyes; the cycle of life is miraculous and necessary, surprising and obvious much like the connections I see happening online everyday. Not to be all evangelistic about it but we live in some awesome times. Discovering how platforms, code, content and people unite is thrilling and drives me to points of mini-celebrations throughout my day and delivers me the ‘wonderment of the internet’ that I am now a junkie for.

What was cause for celebration this week? Well, it’s funny you should ask since I discovered some sa-weet designers from the other side of the pond aka the UK. All right then. My journey is depicted below:

It all began with a single tweet from my friend, imjustcreative, who quipped:

And I thought to myself, imjustcreative is a groovy guy with superior taste in all things cool so down the link-y-brook road I wandered. And what to my wandering eyes would appear but a fabulous website indeed developed and designed by JamFactory or known in the human world as Gavin Strange, a self-professed manchild from Leicester but now living in Bristol. He works as Senior Online Designer at Aardman Animations by day, and by night indulges in “graphical obsessions,” going under the name 'JamFactory'.

Reading through his bio while admiring his design prowess, my attention was captured by these adorable designer toys called Droplets. Released in May of this year, the series comes in five different colors and delivers on the cute factor in spades. They are described as such,
"Born within the glossy walls of the JamFactory, Droplet spent his infant years pushing pixels and licking kittens until he decided to join the mystical Crazy Label family in Hong Kong, where he tamed his inner beasts and gained the strength needed to become the worlds slickest plaything!"

If JamFactory’s design awesomeness wasn’t enough to stand up and clap out loud than Flickr user LomoLibertines’s project 365 Project Molly&Milo – A Droplet Adventure was. She’s taking a snap of them every single day for a year, a whimsical collection of her two Droplets, Molly&Milo in creative repose.

To date, these are my two favorite LomoLibertine pics along with her comments:

"Day #12 of my 365 Project
Ok imagine my surprise when i go to make some scrabbled eggs from breakfast .. only to find there pair having a party in the box! ;o) ....they found it rather funny and continues to giggle for about an hour!”

"Day #21 of my 365 Project
SOOOOOOO EXCITED!
Where going to see oasis 2night in birmingham! .. wooo wooo wooo!”

A tweet leads to a designer leads to a photographer leads to a blog post. And we all lived happily ever after.

The end.
